In the throes of the lunch rush, 660 voters so far at the Alexandria Civitan Club. Workers there say that's already twice what they saw in the June primary.
Driving up to the polling station, it's obvious which race has garnered the most attention in Calhoun's unincoroporated areas: Calhoun County Board of Education. Approaching the Civitan Club, I found signs for 12 of the 13 candidates running for the seven seats.
Outside the precinct, you'll find interest in schools, too. The club has 3,000 pounds of peanuts to sell to voters on their way out. They've sold several dozen two-pound bags at $3.50 each today to benefit special-needs children in Alexandria.
