I posted this on my police blog. It's a press release from U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin (not the Alice Martin running for probate court).

DISTRICT ELECTION OFFICER APPOINTED

BIRMINGHAM, AL - United States Attorney Alice H. Martin announced today that Pat Meadows, an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Alabama, will lead the efforts of her Office in the connection with the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program for the upcoming November 7, 2006, general elections. Assistant United States Attorney Meadows has been appointed to serve as the District Election Officer for the Northern District of Alabama, and in that capacity is responsible for overseeing the District’s handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters.
“Election fraud and voting rights abuses dilute the worth of votes honestly cast,” states U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin. “They also corrupt the essence of our representative form of government. As crimes against both the individual and the government, they will be dealt with promptly and aggressively. Anyone who has information suggesting electoral corruption or voting rights abuses should make that information available immediately to my Office, the FBI, or the Civil Rights Division.”

In order to respond to complaints of election fraud or voting rights abuses on November 7, 2006, and to ensure that such complaints are directed to the appropriate authorities, United States Attorney Martin stated that Assistant United States Attorney/District Election Officer Meadows and Assistant United States Attorney Melissa Atwood will be on duty in this District while the polls are open. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will also have Special Agents available in each field office and resident agency in this District to receive allegations of election fraud and other election abuses. The FBI can be reached by the public at 205-326-6166 or Special Agent Morris Boatner, FBI Voter Fraud Coordinator at 205-279-1216.
“The FBI will aggressively investigate allegations of voting rights abuse or election fraud,” states Carmen S. Adams, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation.
